The Detroit Red Wings are now down two important centres.
Andrew Copp suffered a lower-body injury on Tuesday against the Florida Panthers.
The injury occurred in the second period when Copp was tangled up on a face-off with the Panthers' Tomas Nosek. Copp was hobbled as he made his way to the Red Wings bench and he did not return to the game. The Red Wings announced at the start of the third period that Copp would not return.
The injury comes at a bad time for the Red Wings as they were already playing without captain Dylan Larkin. Larkin suffered a non-contact injury last week and has missed two games since. He is considered day-to-day.
Copp had found a home on the Red Wings' second line, playing between Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane. He had an assist before his injury on Tuesday and has eight goals and 37 points in 65 games this year.
