The Detroit Red Wings got some relatively good news regarding their captain.
Head coach Todd McLellan announced that Dylan Larkin will join the team for their upcoming four-game road trip and is taking it "day-by-day," but will not play on Sunday in New Jersey against the Devils.
Larkin suffered a non-contact injury in the third period of the Red Wings' loss against the Florida Panthers on Friday.
The injury occurred after his leg bent awkwardly while taking a shot on the Panthers' net, with Larkin subsequently appearing to be in pain and needing to be helped to the locker room.
McLellan told reporters post-game that he didn't think the injury would be long-term.
Larkin has enjoyed a solid season, posting 28 goals and 27 assists in 63 games. The 29-year-old centre was also part of Team USA's gold medal-winning squad at the Olympics, where he scored two goals.
