Detroit Red Wings defenceman Simon Edvinsson will be sidelined four to six months after undergoing left shoulder surgery on Tuesday, meaning he could miss the start of the season.
Edvinsson, 20, was Detroit's first-round selection (sixth overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft Draft and made his NHL debut with the Red Wings on March 18.
The Swedish blue-liner had two goals in nine game for Detroit this season. He added five goals and 22 assists in 52 games for Grand Rapids in the AHL.
It was Edvinsson's first pro season in North America after he spent the previous year in Sweden.
