Elmer Söderblom won't be leaving the Motor City anytime soon.
The Detroit Red Wings made sure of it, re-signing the Swedish defenceman to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $1.125 million, the team announced Wednesday.
Söderblom, 23, made 26 appearances for the Red Wings last season, recording 11 points (four goals, seven assists). He was a plus-two in 13:22 average time on ice.
The six-foot-eight, 246-pound right-winger also logged 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) and a plus-four mark in 38 regular-season games with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins in 2024-25. Söderblom spent the entire 2023-24 campaign with the Griffins, setting career highs in games played (61), goals (13), assists (16) and points (29).
Söderblom was originally selected by the Red Wings in the sixth round (159th overall) of the 2019 draft. He's totalled 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) and is a plus-two through 47 career NHL appearances with Detroit.
On the international stage, Söderblom represented Sweden at the 2021 world junior championship along with Red Wings teammates Lucas Raymond and Albert Johansson, collecting two goals and an assist in five games. Söderblom won a gold medal with Sweden at the 2019 IIHF world U18 championship, netting one goal in seven appearances. He also captured a silver medal at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
