The Detroit Red Wings have avoided restricted free agency with one of their young forwards.
Right-winger Jonatan Berggren has re-signed with the Red Wings on a one-year, $1.85 million deal, the team announced Monday.
He'll once again be slated for restricted free agency when this deal is up after the 2025-26 season.
Berggren, 24, had a solid third season in Detroit, finishing with 12 points and 12 assists in 75 games.
It was a return to form for the young winger, as he spent most of the 2023-24 season in the American Hockey League with the Grand Rapids Griffins, notching 24 goals and 32 assists in 53 games.
The Uppsala, Sweden, native was drafted 33rd overall by the Red Wings in 2018 and has picked up 29 goals and 29 assists over 154 games at the NHL level.
He debuted for Detroit in the 2022-23 season.
