The Detroit Red Wings are keeping their Calder Trophy-winning defenceman.
Moritz Seider and the Red Wings agreed to a seven-year, $59.85 million contract on Thursday, with an average annual value of $8.55 million, the club announced.
Seider, who was a restricted free agent, scored nine goals last season, adding 33 assists for 42 points in 82 games. His nine goals on 135 shots set a career-high shooting percentage at 6.7 per cent.
His new deal will take him through the 2030-31 season, when he will become an unrestricted free agent at age 30.
The Zell, Germany, native won the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie after the 2021-22 season, when his 50 points in 82 games was fourth among all rookies in scoring and tied for 20th among all NHL defencemen.
Seider was selected by the Red Wings ninth-overall in the 2019 NHL Draft.
