The Detroit Red Wings will finish their tilt against the Calgary Flames short a blue-liner.
Defenceman Simon Edvinsson has been ruled out with a lower-body injury to start the third period of Wednesday's game, the team announced.
The 22-year-old skated for two more shifts late in the second period after taking a hard one-timer off the stick of Yegor Sharangovich that hit his foot and was directed out of play.
Edvinsson recorded 14:37 total ice time with a plus-1 rating, three hits and two blocked shots before exiting.
The sixth overall pick in 2021 has scored three goals with six assists in 27 games for the Red Wings this season. For his career, he has netted 44 points (13 goals, 31 assists) in 130 games since making his debut in April 2023.
Detroit held a 4-3 lead to defeat Calgary after scoring four unanswered goals to start the game.
