The Detroit Red Wings will be without one of their top defencemen until after the Olympic break.
Simon Edvinsson will miss the Red Wings' final five games before the break while dealing with a lower-body injury, head coach Todd McLellan announced Monday.
Edvinsson has already missed two games with the injury. The six-foot-six blue-liner has formed one of the NHL's top pairs alongside Norris Trophy candidate Moritz Seider, helping the Red Wings surge to the top spot in the Atlantic Division.
This season, Edvinsson, 22, has six goals and 17 points in 48 games. The injury likely takes him out of contention to replace the injured Jonas Brodin on Team Sweden at the Olympics.
The Red Wings return to the ice Tuesday at home against the Los Angeles Kings.
