The Detroit Red Wings have traded power forward Klim Kostin to the San Jose Sharks for defenceman Radim Simek and a seventh-round pick in 2024.
The pick originally belonged to the New Jersey Devils.
Kostin, who has been the 13th forward for the Red Wings most of the season, has four points in 33 games this season.
The Red Wings announced after the trade that Simek would be loaned to the AHL's Grand Rapid Griffins. He has not appeared in an NHL game this season but has 209 NHL games on his resume.
By moving off Kostin, the Red Wings will open up a spot for scoring winger Jonatan Berggren, who has 46 points in 43 AHL games this season after playing a full-time NHL role last year.
