Detroit Red Wings forward Jakub Vrana will undergo surgery on an injured shoulder and is expected to miss a minimum of four months, head coach Jeff Blashill announced Thursday.

Vrana, 25, joined the Red Wings for training camp practice last week, but left with an injury after roughly ten minutes of skating. He's coming off a 36-point, 50-game campaign split between the Washington Capitals and Red Wings.

The Red Wings acquired his services from the Capitals in exchange for forward Anthony Mantha. After producing 11 points in 11 games with the Red Wings, Vrana signed a three-year, $15.75 million contract this off-season.

The Red Wings signed forward Bobby Ryan to a professional tryout in search of some offensive boost following Vrana's injury.
