The Columbus Blue Jackets look to have avoided a lengthy absence for their top defenceman.
X-rays for Zach Werenski late Saturday night confirmed no broken bones to his lower right leg, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports on Sunday.
Werenski was forced to leave Saturday's game against the Anaheim Ducks in the third period after blocking a shot with his ankle.
In visible pain, Werenski crawled to the bench while play continued.
The 28-year-old has played all 34 games for the Blue Jackets this season with 13 goals and 38 points. He's second in defenceman scoring league-wide to Cale Makar, who has 40 points.
After notching 82 points in 81 games last season, Werenski was named a finalist for the Norris Trophy, which he ultimately lost to Makar.
The Blue Jackets are back in action Monday on the road against the Los Angeles Kings.
