Logan Cooley appears to have avoided a major injury.
The Utah Mammoth forward sustained a quad contusion Saturday against the St. Louis Blues, but initial findings show that is the extent of his ailment. He will have an MRI to confirm that there is no knee damage, hockey insider Frank Seravalli reported on Sunday.
Cooley, the Mammoth's leading scorer, was seen walking onto the team bus post-game under his own power, per Seravalli.
The 21-year-old forward left Saturday's game against St. Louis following a knee-on-knee collision with Blues forward Alexey Toropchenko.
Cooley, with the help of trainers, went straight to the locker room without bearing any weight on his injured leg. Toropchenko was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct penalty for the hit.
However, Toropchenko won't receive any supplemental discipline, according to Blues reporter Andy Strickland.
Cooley has continued to impress and improve in his third NHL season, recording a team-high 14 goals while adding nine assists in 26 games this year.
Last season, the 2022 third-overall pick posted 65 points (25 goals, 40 assists), a 21-point improvement from his rookie season.
