Brennan Othmann is heading back north of the border.
The New York Rangers have traded the winger to the Calgary Flames in exchange for prospect forward Jacob Battaglia, the Rangers announced on Friday.
Othmann has 42 games of NHL experience over three seasons in New York. The Rangers drafted the Toronto native 16th overall in 2021. Since then, he's tallied one goal, two assists, 40 hits and a plus-three mark.
The 23-year-old scored his lone NHL goal this season as part of 17 appearances with the Rangers through 2025-26.
As for Battaglia, the 19-year-old is a former second-round pick (2024) of the Flames, currently playing for the OHL's Flint Firebirds. The Mississauga, Ont., native has 12 goals and four assists through 22 games this season. He's yet to make his NHL debut.
Swapping Battaglia for Othmann was one of many moves from the Flames ahead of Friday's trade deadline, which included sending Nazem Kadri back to the Colorado Avalanche and acquiring Ryan Strome from the Anaheim Ducks.
