The Buffalo Sabres and Jack Eichel may meet next week to discuss the forward’s future, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
Both parties have been keeping quiet about the relationship between Eichel and the team after the 24-year-old expressed frustration with how Buffalo handled a nagging neck injury.
“The 12 weeks of rest and recovery asked by the Sabres ends [Sunday],” Friedman said during the Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada. “It is believed that he and the Sabres are going to meet sometime over the next week to discuss what the next steps will be for him and the organization.”
Friedman reported in mid-April that Eichel would need surgery for the neck ailment, which dated back to March 7. In May, Eichel stated that he was “a bit upset” with how the team handled his issues, saying that there was a “disconnect between me and the organization.”
On April 14, it was announced that the Sabres captain would miss the remainder of the 2020-21 season. Eichel signed an extension last year and is under contract with Buffalo until 2026.
