The Buffalo Sabres will have to wait to know the extent of Josh Norris' injury.
Head coach Lindy Ruff announced on Friday that the centre is still undergoing evaluation, but that the team doesn't expect him to play Saturday against the Boston Bruins.
Norris, 26, was injured off a faceoff on Thursday night against the New York Rangers.
Norris was slow to get up after falling to the ice on the neutral zone face-off. He eventually got up and made his way slowly to the bench but did not take another shift.
After the game, head coach Lindy Ruff didn't have a concrete update on Norris.
"He didn’t finish the game," Ruff said Thursday night. "So I’m gonna say that’s not a good sign."
Norris has a history of injuries, including after he was acquired by the Sabres from the Senators last year.
The six-year NHL veteran has only appeared in more than 56 games in a season once in his career. Last year, in 56 games, he had 21 goals and 35 points, but injuries limited him to only three games with the Sabres after a trade-deadline deal.
Ruff also announced Friday that forward Zach Benson, who is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, will not play Saturday.
Benson was hospitalized after taking a puck to the face during Sabres practice on Wednesday.
Defenceman Owen Power will make the trip to Boston and could play, Ruff added.
Power was activated off injured reserve ahead of the team's opener on Thursday, but was sidelined with an illness.
