The Buffalo Sabres' forward depth has taken a big blow.
Rookie Noah Ostlund will be out "a period of time" with a lower-body injury he suffered in Tuesday's Game 5 loss to the Boston Bruins, Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff told reporters Wednesday.
"News wasn't good, don't know how much exactly right now, but he's going to miss some time," Ruff said.
Ostlund was injured in a first-period collision with Bruins forward Casey Mittelstadt. He hobbled off the ice without putting weight on his left leg.
The 22-year-old Ostlund had 11 goals and 27 points in 60 games this season. He also had a goal and an assist in the series against the Bruins.
The Bruins won 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday to force a Game 6 back in Boston on Friday.
