The Buffalo Sabres will be without a pair of depth centres for their second-round series.
Sam Carrick and Noah Ostlund are both expected to be out for Round 2 due to injury, Sabres coach Lindy Ruff confirmed on Sunday.
“I don’t believe either will be available in this series yet,” Ruff said.
Carrick last played on March 31 when he sustained an upper-body injury during a fight with New York Islanders captain Anders Lee.
The 34-year-old was acquired by the Sabres ahead of the trade deadline in a deal with the New York Rangers. Since joining Buffalo, the forward has five goals and one assist in 13 games.
Meanwhile, Ostlund suffered his lower-body injury in the first period of Game 5 against Boston, when Bruins forward Casey Mittelstadt fell awkwardly on his left leg.
The centre was enjoying a solid rookie year with the Sabres, tallying 11 goals and 16 assists in 60 games. In the three games he suited up for in the first round, the Stockholm native had one goal and one assist.
Buffalo is still awaiting its second-round opponent as the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning meet for a decisive Game 7 showdown on Sunday to claim their spot in Round 2.
