Noah Ostlund is sticking with the Buffalo Sabres.
The two sides agreed to an eight-year extension, with an AAV of $6.6 million, the Sabres announced on Monday.
“He’s a coach’s dream, because those are the type of players you don’t really have to coach,” Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff said in April. “He pretty well knows where he’s going almost every time. Very few times in the D zone does he get out of position.”
Ostlund, 22, is coming off his second NHL season and was entering the 2026-27 campaign in the final year of his rookie deal before restricted free agency. The Swedish forward emerged as a rising contributor in Buffalo during his first full pro season last year, chipping in 11 goals and 16 assists through 60 appearances.
He then added a goal and an assist through three post-season appearances.
Ostlund, the 16th overall pick in 2022, is now one of 10 Sabres players signed through at least 2029-30, solidifying the team's core alongside forwards Josh Norris, Zach Benson, Tage Thompson, Josh Doan, Peyton Krebs, and Beck Malenstyn and defencemen Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Power and Mattias Samuelsson.
Meanwhile, Tuesday was the deadline for teams to sign players to eight-year deals like the one Ostlund received — the new collective bargaining agreement takes effect on Wednesday, and seven years will become the maximum term for contracts moving forward.
