Sam Lafferty is returning to Chicago for a second go-around with the Blackhawks.
Buffalo has shipped the 30-year-old centre to the Blackhawks for a sixth-round pick in 2026, the Sabres announced Tuesday.
Lafferty has one year left on a two-year, $4-million deal.
Lafferty finished 2021-22 with Chicago and started the next season with the Blackhawks before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The American had four goals and three assists in 60 games with the Sabres last season.
Lafferty has 40 goals and 50 assists in 349 career games with the Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Maple Leafs, Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins.
