The Buffalo Sabres finished out Tuesday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with their third-string goalie.
Starting netminder Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen left the game in the first period after appearing to suffer an injury while trying to make a save on the Maple Leafs' second goal. He did not return for the second period, instead replaced between the pipes by Colten Ellis.
After Auston Matthews scored, Luukkonen appeared to be in pain, gesturing to his left leg before skating off and towards the locker room.
Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff told reporters after the game that Luukkonen will be evaluated by doctors on Wednesday, and the team will know more then.
Luukkonen, 26, has appeared in 20 games for the Sabres this season, earning a .905 save percentage and 2.66 goals-against average with a 11-7 record.
Ellis, meanwhile, has 11 games under his belt this season with a .898 save percentage and 3.10 goals-against average.
The Sabres (30-17-5) sit third in the Atlantic Division.
