The Colorado Avalanche signed defenceman Saige Weinstein to a three-year, entry-level contract, the club announced Friday. The deal is worth $2.4 million, with an AAV of $800,000.
The 18-year-old Weinstein is currently skating in his third season with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. Weinstein racked up 18 points (4 goals, 14 assists) in 57 WHL games last year and ranked third among Chiefs defencemen in scoring.
The Edmonton native recently attended the Avalanche’s 2023-24 development camp and stepped onto the ice for one NHL pre-season game. He played two games for the Avalanche in the 2023 Rookie Faceoff Tournament, scoring the game-winning goal in the team’s final game against the Vegas Golden Knights.
