Sam Gagner returns to Red Wings on one-year contract

Veteran centre Sam Gagner is returning to the Detroit Red Wings on a one-year contract. Financial details were not disclosed by the team.

Gagner, 31, was acquired by the Red Wings at the 2020 trade deadline from the Edmonton Oilers and has served as a veteran voice on a team going through a rebuild. In 42 games last season Gagner had seven goals and 15 points.

The London, Ont., native has appeared in 886 career NHL games with the Red Wings, Oilers, Flyers, Blue Jackets and Coyotes.
