The Ottawa Senators are bringing in reinforcements.
After Thomas Chabot and Lassi Thomson left Monday's game with injury, the Senators announced they have called up Carter Yakemchuk and Jorian Donovan to make their NHL debuts in a key Eastern Conference battle with the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.
Chabot exited Monday's game against the New York Rangers after he was slashed by J.T. Miller at the end of the first period. He immediately grabbed his right arm in pain as he skated to the bench and did not return for the second period.
Then, in the second period, Thomson left the game with a lower-body injury.
Both players were ruled out for the game in the second intermission.
Speaking after the 2-1 win, head coach Travis Green announced that both players would "be out for a while."
The Senators were already missing defencemen Jake Sanderson, Nick Jensen and Dennis Gilbert, so more injuries on the back end come as a tough blow for a Senators team trying to climb back into a playoff spot.
Yakemchuk, who was drafted seventh overall in 2024, has 10 goals and 26 assists in 50 games during his rookie AHL season. He ranks 10th in scoring among AHL defencemen.
Donovan has four goals and 17 assists for a career-best 21 points in his second AHL season in Belleville.
The duo is the third and fourth defenders the Senators have called up from the AHL since the beginning of March.
