It seems Jake Sanderson's nagging injury just won't go away.
The Ottawa Senators defenceman played just six shifts in the first period before he was ruled out midway through the second period in the team's season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. After the game, head coach Travis Green confirmed that he re-aggrevated a lower-body injury.
"We'll know more in the next few days, but Sandy was smart enough to pull himself early enough that he didn't re-aggravate it too badly. He just felt that it was coming and took himself out," Green said.
Sanderson returned to practice on Friday after missing a good chunk of training camp and the pre-season.
He left a split-squad game on Sept. 26 for precautionary reasons.
In 2025-26, the left-shot defender tallied 14 goals and 40 assists in 67 games.
The Senators picked Sanderson fifth overall in the 2020 NHL Draft.
