Carter Yakemchuk's stint in the NHL has come to an end, for now.
The Ottawa Senators loaned the 20-year-old defenceman back to the Belleville Senators in the AHL, the team announced Wednesday.
With Ottawa dealing with a number of injuries on its blue line, Yakemchuk was called up and played in four games for the Senators. He recorded one goal and one assist over the four games and was a minus-1.
The Calgary Hitmen product heads back to Belleville, where he has 10 goals and 26 assists in 50 games this season.
Yakemchuk's loan could mean that the Senators are expecting one of their injured defenceman to make a return to the lineup soon.
Both Dennis Gilbert and Thomas Chabot have been out for the past few weeks with injuries.
After a big win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, the Senators now sit two points clear of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
