The Ottawa Senators and Sabres were in conversation about a deal involving Matt Murray but the goaltender has Buffalo on his no-trade list, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports, putting a halt to any possible negotiations.

The Senators have been looking to move the 28-year-old as they have three goaltenders under contract going into next season after signing Anton Forsberg a three-year extension and Flip Gustavsson signed until 2023. Murray has two more years left on his current deal that has a $6.25 million cap hit.

Murray has struggled since joining the Senators in 2020, appearing in just 47 games over the last two seasons and putting up a 3.38 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage.

Buffalo only has Craig Anderson under contract for next season after agreeing to a one-year $1.5 million deal with the 41-year-old.
