Senators' Murray likely out 'little bit longer' than Forsberg

Senators coach DJ Smith talked about the injury to Matt Murray, and if he thinks Murray will be able to play in net again before the season comes to an end.

The Ottawa Senators will be shorthanded between the pipes as the 2020-21 NHL regular season comes down the home stretch.

Senators coach D.J. Smith announced Monday that goaltender Matt Murray would likely be out "a little bit longer" than Anton Forsberg, who is also injured.

Murray suffered a lower-body injury in an April 24 loss to the Vancouver Canucks, a game he wasn't even supposed to start. Forsberg was in line to start but suffered a lower-body injury in warmups forcing Murray into action.

When asked if Murray could return this season, Smith explained that it is still "up in the air."

To combat their depleted goaltending room, the Senators recalled both Filip Gustavsson and Kevin Mandolese from the Belleville Senators. Gustavsson will serve as the team's backup Monday against the Canucks, while Madolese has been re-assigned to the taxi squad.

Marcus Hogberg will start Monday against the Vancouver Canucks.

To make room for the two goalies, Cody Goloubef and Logan Shaw were both re-assigned to Belleville.
