The Ottawa Senators have named Zac Bierk as their new goaltending coach, and have reassigned former coach Pierre Groulx into a scouting and development role.
"Unfortunately, a number of our goaltending performances this season have been underwhelming," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in the press release.
"I think very highly of Pierre Groulx, he's as dedicated and tireless a worker as anyone in the organization, but we recently reached a point where we thought a fresh outlook could help return some stability to our crease."
Bierk, a former NHL player who appeared in 47 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Minnesota Wild and Arizona Coyotes, has been with the Coyotes for more than two seasons in a development coach role, where he was responsible for goaltending prospect development at the AHL, major junior and collegiate levels.
The Senators sit in last place in the North Division with a 13-22-4 record, and their 146 goals-against is the highest in the league.
