After a poor performance in the net during Monday's loss to the Red Wings, the Ottawa Senators have made a change in net.
Ottawa has recalled goalie Mads Søgaard from the Belleville Senators, the team announced on Tuesday.
Søgaard, who was drafted by the team in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft, has bounced between the NHL and AHL since the 2020-21 season.
The Danish goaltender has an 11-11-3 record in 29 career games.
In a corresponding move, the Senators have assigned goalie Hunter Shepard to Belleville, where he has spent the majority of the season.
The 30-year-old made his Senators debut in Monday's 5-3 loss after Leevi Merilainen was pulled in the first period, having allowed three goals on eight shots.
Shepard went on to play the remaining 40 minutes, saving 10 of the 12 shots he faced.
He was loaned the following day.
Merilainen made his third straight start since top goalie Linus Ullmark took a personal leave of absence on Dec. 27. This was his worst performance.
With the loss, Ottawa sits tied for last place in the Atlantic Division with 45 points.
