The Ottawa Senators have signed AHL head coach Troy Mann to a contract extension, keeping him behind the bench of the Belleville Senators for the next two seasons.
Mann, 51, has a 93-67-8-6 record over the last three seasons in Belleville.
“When we hired Troy three summers ago, we knew we were getting someone who had a strong track record in developing players,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in a statement. “With where we were as an organization at that time, and with all that has transpired with regards to stockpiling prospects since, the timing could not have been better. Troy has played a vital role in helping with both the development and preparation of countless players, many of whom have recently assumed important roles in Ottawa. We’re pleased to reach an agreement with Troy to see him return to Belleville.”
Mann's addition to the Senators coincided with the team entering into a rebuild, requiring a number of the club's top prospects to spend some time in the AHL developing. In 2019-20, three Senators players ranked in the top 10 in AHL scoring -- including Josh Norris, who would win AHL rookie of the year that season.
Before joining the Senators, Mann spent four seasons as the head coach of the AHL's Hershey Bears -- the affiliate of the Washington Capitals.
