The Ottawa Senators have signed goaltender Filip Gustavsson to a two-year contract, the team announced Sunday.
The first year is a two-way deal that will pay him $750,000 in the NHL and $125,000 in the AHL. The following 2022-23 season is strictly one-way, and Gustavsson is set to earn $825,000.
Gustavsson, 23, registered a 5-1-2 record and a .933 save percentage with the Ottawa Senators last season. The Skelleftea, Sweden native has played 75 games with AHL's Belleville Senators over the past four seasons.
"We were very pleased with Filip's performance last season," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in a press release. "After spending the early part of the year playing in Sweden, it was evident to us that he is committed to continually improve his overall game. He's someone we regard as a high-end talent and we're looking forward to seeing his progress in 2021-22."
The Senators acquired Gustavsson from the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Derick Brassard-centred trade in 2018. The Penguins had selected the netminder 55th overall in 2016.
