The Ottawa Senators moved up a few spots in the third round of the 2025 NHL Draft to select Blake Vanek, the son of former NHLer Thomas Vanek.
Ottawa acquired the 93rd overall pick from the Washington Capitals in exchange for the 96th overall pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick.
Vanek spent the 2024-25 season with the Stillwater High "A" of the USHS, scoring 22 goals and 53 points in 29 games. He also spent nine games in the USHL with the Chicago Steel, where he scored four goals and five points, and six games with the U.S. National Development Team, where he registered an assist.
The 27-year-old signed a scholarship and development agreement with the Wenatchee Wild of the WHL for the 2025-26 season.
