The Ottawa Senators' blue line took a hit during Tuesday's game against the New York Islanders.
Defenceman Thomas Chabot left the contest after being hit in the face by a shot from Islanders defenceman Adam Pelech in the first period. The 27-year-old immediately skated off the ice and to the locker room after the play, leaving blood on the ice behind him.
The Senators ruled him for precautionary reasons just as the third period started.
After the Senators' win, coach Travis Green said he had no further update on Chabot and the team would know more Wednesday.
Chabot has logged just over four minutes of ice time before being forced to exit.
The six-foot-two D-man has 19 points in 42 games for Ottawa this season and a plus-10 rating. He is averaging 23 minutes and 13 seconds of ice time per game.
Ottawa entered Tuesday night one point back of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a 21-18-3 record.
