Linus Ullmark will not dress for Tuesday's game against the Detroit Red Wings but his absence isn't expected to be long-term.
Ottawa Senators head coach Travis Green told reporters pre-game that Ullmark is "fine" after leaving his start on Monday with Boston Bruins forward JJ Peterka.
"He kind of tweaked something a little bit," Green said Monday night. "Precautionary, we just felt it was best if we bring him out. Get it evaluated again."
With Ullmark out, Samuel Ersson is in line to make his first start with the Senators while newly acquired goaltender Jonas Johansson was recalled from the AHL to serve as backup.
Johansson was acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning late last month after the Senators lost Leevi Meriläinen on waivers to the Vancouver Canucks.
He allowed six goals in two AHL games last weekend.
The Swedish goalie had a 3.29 goals-against average and .884 save percentage in 25 games last season with the Lightning.
In other lineup news, forward Ridly Greig will make his season debut after missing two games due to a suspension for punching Hurricanes defenceman Sean Walker in the playoffs last spring. Hayden Hodgson will be a healthy scratch to make room for Greig in the lineup.
