The San Jose Sharks have acquired Devan Dubnyk and a 2022 seventh-round draft pick from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick in 2022, the teams announced on Monday.

As part of the deal, Minnesota will retain 50 per cent of Dubnyk's $4.33 million salary.

"Devan has been one of the League's top goaltenders for many years and after playing so many years in the Western Conference, is someone our hockey staff is very familiar with," Doug Wilson, San Jose's general manager, said. "As we head into what will surely be a unique season, his acquisition gives us a high-quality and experienced tandem of netminders."

The 34-year-old appeared in only 30 games with Minnesota last season while dealing with a family situation, posting a 12-15-2 record with a 3.55 goals-against average.

Prior to that, from the 2015-16 season through the 2018-19 season, Dubnyk won at least 31 games each year.

Over his 11-year NHL career, the three-time All-Star has appeared in 520 games, earning a 247-195-52 record to go along with a 2.58 GAA, .915 save percentage and 32 shutouts.

In 2015, Dubnyk earned a Vezina Trophy nomination for his sterling campaign, posting a .929 save percentage and six shutouts while splitting the year between Arizona and Minnesota. He wound up being named the Masterton winner by season's end.

The six-foot-six, 224-pound goaltender was originally selected by Edmonton in the first round (14th overall) of the 2004 NHL Draft.
