Michael Misa's potential status for the Canadian team at the world junior hockey championship remains very much up in the air.
San Jose Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky told reporters on Monday that Misa is behind fellow Sharks forward Jeff Skinner in his recovery from a lower-body injury. Skinner (lower-body injury), Warsofsky said, is about two weeks away from getting back on the ice.
Team Canada is hoping to have all its players available for a training camp starting Dec. 12 in Niagara Falls, Ont., but Program of Excellence general manager Alan Millar has said there could be flexibility for NHL players.
If Misa is healthy, the Sharks will have to decide whether to loan him to the national junior team.
The 18-year-old Misa has one goal and two assists in seven games for the Sharks this season. He was picked second overall by San Jose in this year's NHL Draft.
Misa is one of nine players currently in the NHL eligible to play for Canada at the world junior championship, which starts Dec. 26 in Minnesota.
