The San Jose Sharks have signed defenceman Fredrik Claesson to a one-year contract.

CapFriendly reports that it is a two-way deal worth $700,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 in the AHL.
Claesson split last season with the New Jersey Devils and Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. The 28-year-old had two points in five games with New Jersey and 19 points in 47 games with the Checkers.
“Fredrik is a strong defensive player who has the ability to shut down the opposition quickly,” said Wilson. “His NHL experience provides value to our organization’s defensive depth. We are happy to have him.”
The Stockholm, Sweden native was originally selected by Ottawa in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft. He has played in 155 career games with the Senators, Devils and New York Rangers scoring 28 points.
