The San Jose Sharks have added some depth in the crease, signing goaltender Jakub Skarek to a one-year, $775,000 contract Thursday.
Skarek, who was an unrestricted free agent, made his NHL debut with the New York Islanders this past season and registered a 0-1-0 record, 3.94 goals-against average and .872 save percentage in two games.
The 25-year-old from Jihlava, Czechia, spent the majority of the year with the AHL's Bridgeport Islanders and finished with a 5-13-1 record, 3.52 GAA and .884 save percentage with one shutout in 22 games.
"Jakub has a plethora of professional experience in net at just 25 years old," Sharks general manager Mike Grier said in a release. "He is a big, athletic goaltender with a lot of compete in his game."
Skarek was drafted in the third round, 72nd overall, by the Islanders in 2018.
