Kiefer Sherwood is staying in Northern California.
The San Jose Sharks have signed the winger to a five-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.
The deal carries an AAV of $5.75 million, a significant raise on his current salary of $1.5 million.
“We are very excited to have Kiefer remain in San Jose and be part of the group that we are building,” general manager Mike Grier said in a statement released by the team. “The ingredients he brings to our line-up on a nightly basis blend extremely well with the skillsets of his teammates and we look forward to his contributions in the years to come.”
In 49 games this season, split between the Sharks and Vancouver Canucks, the 30-year-old has 18 goals and 25 points.
Sherwood was acquired by the Sharks from the Canucks on Jan. 19, though he did not make his team debut until Feb. 4. He struggled to make an immediate impact after joining the San Jose lineup, but potted a goal and an assist on March 3 to mark his first tallies since the trade.
The undrafted forward is in his eighth NHL season — also playing for the Anaheim Ducks, Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators — with 314 games, 61 goals and 123 points under his belt.
