Simmonds, Maroon, Perry fined for unsportsmanlike conduct following Game 1 brawl

Watch as a full-on line brawl erupts between the Maple Leafs and Lightning after Wayne Simmonds lays a hit on Jan Rutta.

Monday's series-opener between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning saw tempers flare early on, with a trio of fines coming down Tuesday in the aftermath.

Toronto's Wayne Simmonds and Tampa Bay's Pat Maroon and Corey Perry were all fined the maximum allowable amount under the CBA for unsportsmanlike conduct ($2,250 for Simmonds and Maroon; $2,500 for Perry).

All three were involved in a scuffle that broke out in the third period of the eventual 5-0 Leafs win.

The brawl saw nearly 80 penalty minutes issued, with all three players — as well as Ilya Lyubushkin, Jan Rutta, and Morgan Rielly — earning 10-minute misconducts for their respective roles in the messy scene.

Earlier in the game, Maple Leafs forward Kyle Clifford also earned the notice of the league when he boarded Lightning forward Ross Colton. Clifford was ejected from the game and is expected to be suspended — he has a hearing later Tuesday.
