Another player wants out of Detroit.
Simon Edvinsson prefers a trade from the Red Wings, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported during Saturday Night Hockey.
The team and Edvinsson's agent have not commented on the situation, per Friedman.
The 23-year-old blue-liner remains unsigned as a restricted free agent one day after Detroit opened their season with a loss to the New York Rangers.
Edvinsson was seen on the ice back in his native Sweden practising on Wednesday.
The six-foot-six, left-shot defenceman was drafted sixth overall by the Red Wings in 2021 and had 25 points (nine goals, 16 assists) during his second full NHL season in 2025-26.
Red Wings interim general manager Shawn Horcoff was asked about Edvinsson's status on Friday and said, “He remains a priority.”
“We’re doing everything (we) can, working closely with the agents. He’s a big part of our club and we’d like to get him signed," Horcoff added. "But the details of the negotiation, we’ll keep private between us, out of respect for Simon and his group, and we can comment on all of that when it’s all said and done."
The Red Wings have continued to make it clear to teams that their priority is to sign Edvinsson, Friedman added.
Meanwhile, former Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin was booed by fans at the team's home opener on Friday because of his off-season trade request.
Larkin was stripped of his captaincy due to the request and was out against the Rangers with an upper-body injury sustained while training during the summer.
The Red Wings are mired in a decade-long playoff drought — the longest active streak in the NHL.
