Stanley Cup Playoffs Player Props: Flames' Tkachuk is due to score

Dallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger (29) blocks a shot by Calgary Flames left wing Matthew Tkachuk (19) in the second period of Game 4 of an NHL hockey Stanley Cup first-round playoff series, Monday, May 9, 2022, in Dallas. (Tony Gutierrez/AP)

The Calgary Flames will attempt to do something in Dallas tonight that Toronto and Edmonton were unable to do before them, and that’s win in six.

That’s one of three more Game 6’s on tap for night 12 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In Pittsburgh, following a crazy comeback victory in Game 5 on Wednesday night, the New York Rangers will try to push the Penguins to the brink.

No Sidney Crosby in that one for the Pens. Elsewhere, the Florida Panthers are in Washington. The Panthers are looking to hammer down their first series victory in 26 years.

Here are some prop bets to consider:

PROP #1: Matthew Tkachuk Anytime Goal (+170)

There’s due, and then there’s Matthew Tkachuk due. After scoring 42 times in the regular season, the Flames winger has yet to tickle the twine through five games against the Stars in Round 1. With Calgary looking to eliminate the Stars tonight, it’s a perfect time for Tkachuk to come through; this guy loves the spotlight.

PROP #2: Jake Oettinger Over 29.5 Saves (-115)

In terms of shot volume, it’s been two different series depending on where the games have been played. Over three in Calgary, the Flames have averaged 29 shots on goal. Conversely, through two in Dallas, they’ve combined to pelt 94. Moral of the story: Oettinger’s dominance must continue or that could be it for Dallas’s improbable run and season.

PROP #3: Jake Guentzel Over 3.5 SOG (-110)

Simply put, the Rangers have had no answer for Guentzel in the series. Not only does the 27-year-old have seven goals, but most pertinent to this prop bet, he’s mustered a whopping 30 shots on goal through five games. In fact, Guentzel’s cleared the 3.5 number in four of five.

To add on this, I’d take a serious look at some Evgeni Malkin props as well. With Crosby out, the 35-year-old will centre Guentzel and Bryan Rust; they’ve been red-hot. In 150 career games without Crosby, Malkin has registered 202 points. Some food for thought. (Goal / +170), Assist / -110, Point / -220)

PROP #4: Alex Ovechkin Over 0.5 Assists (+125)

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. And that’s why I’m riding the Ovechkin assist prop for the fifth consecutive game. Heading into Game 6 tonight, the Washington Capitals’ captain has a goal and five helpers in the series. With Washington’s season on the line, you know their captain will come to play. He’s done it all series, season, and career. For what it’s worth, I like his shot prop too (Over 3.5 / -160).
