Defenceman John Klingberg and goaltender Braden Holtby left the Dallas Stars season opener against the New York Rangers with injuries.

Klingberg appeared to injure his left leg, which bent awkwardly after colliding with Rangers forward Chris Kreider in the first period. Klingberg would return to the game after going to the locker room but was not on the bench for the third period, with the Stars announcing that he suffered a lower-body injury.

Holtby left the game after taking a stick to the head while trying to freeze the puck. Anton Khudobin entered the game for the Stars in the third period.

Klingberg is in the final season of his seven-year deal with the Stars while Holtby joined Dallas on a one-year, $2 million contract after being bought out by the Vancouver Canucks.
