Mavrik Bourque is off the market.
The young forward has agreed to a one-year extension with the Dallas Stars worth $950,000, the team announced Friday.
Bourque was set to be a restricted free agent.
The 23-year-old registered 11 goals and 14 assists in 73 games this past season while averaging nearly 13 minutes a night. He appeared in only three post-season games, failing to record a point in 10:31 of ice time per game.
Bourque was primed to be a offer sheet candidate due to the Stars' lack of cap space. But after a busy few days, general manager Jim Nill has brought back one of the team's young contributors.
"Mavrik is a dynamic and highly skilled player whose vision and hockey IQ stand out every time he's on the ice," said Nill in a press release. "His ability to create plays and elevate the game is something we value deeply in such a young player. We are excited to have him back and confident he'll continue to make a significant impact for our team."
Dallas selected the five-foot-11 forward in the first round of the 2020 draft. Bourque spent two seasons in the American Hockey League, where he racked up 124 points (46 goals, 78 assists) in 141 games.
He led the AHL with 77 points in 2023-24, becoming the league's youngest scoring champion (22) since 2012-13 en route to winning the Les Cunningham Award as the most valuable player.
In addition to Bourque, the Stars have retained forward Matt Duchene and defenceman Nils Lundqvist, while shipping out Mason Marchment to Seattle for draft picks.
