The Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Detroit Red Wings for the second time in three days on Monday, and head coach Craig Berube is looking for more from one of his stars.
Despite being tied for the team lead with four points, Maple Leafs forward William Nylander has been held to just three shots on goal.
Beruebe believes that needs to change.
“Willy needs more shots,” Berube said after Monday's 3-2 loss to the Red Wings. “He needs to attack more, needs to shoot more. He’s got to get on the inside more.
There’s shifts and times where he is skating. But I just feel like it’s not enough. We need more out of him.”
Last season, Nylander finished with 253 shots on net en route to a career-high 45 goals.
His head coach isn't sure what's changed this year, but is going to address it with his Swedish star.
“I don’t know exactly what it is, to be honest with you,” Berube said. “But I’ll have a conversation with him and see where he’s at and what’s going on.”
Nylander won't have to wait long to try and get more pucks on net, as the 1-2 Maple Leafs are back in action on Tuesday when they host the Nashville Predators.
