The Pittsburgh Penguins weren't the only birds at UBS Arena on Tuesday night.
In fact, they weren't even the only birds on the ice.
A winged intruder — or winger, if you will — made its way onto the ice in Long Island, taking purchase behind the Penguins' net to the surprise of New York Islanders forward Bo Horvat.
"There's a bird in here. I ran into him," a mic'd up Horvat said to teammates on the bench. "Dude, I ran into him behind the net. Poor guy."
Worry not, however, as Horvat's skates were no match for the bird's quick reflexes, finding a perch on the boards just in time to watch Horvat and Ondrej Palat set up Matthew Schaefer for the go-ahead one-timer.
While there's no word yet on whether the bird purchased a ticket for its front-row seat to the overtime thriller, the Islanders made sure to share the happy update that their feathered friend was safely released into the wild following the game.
And who knows — with the Islanders rallying from behind not once, but three times with the bird in-house, they might just let this kind of stuff fly in the future.
