Already off to a strong start this season, the Ottawa Senators are set to get a big piece back in the fold.
The Senators placed defenceman Cameron Crotty on waivers Wednesday, making room for the potential return of Thomas Chabot ahead of Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Kings.
Chabot has been out since suffering an upper-body injury against the Philadelphia Flyers on Oct. 18. However, he's been back practising with the Senators and shed his non-contact jersey at Monday's skate.
The 29-year-old was named the 11th captain in Senators history ahead of the season (and became the first francophone to wear the 'C' in Ottawa), replacing Brady Tkachuk, who was traded to the Florida Panthers.
Before suffering the injury, the Sainte-Marie, Que. native had tallied one goal and three assists while posting a plus-5 rating in the Senators' first nine games.
Crotty, meanwhile, has played three games for the Senators this season without getting a point. His last appearance was on Oct. 15 against the New York Islanders.
Selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round of the 2017 draft, the Ottawa native has one assist in 11 career NHL games, split between the Senators, Coyotes and Wild.
