Vegas Golden Knights star defenceman Alex Pietrangelo will be out for the "foreseeable future" with an upper-body injury, head coach Peter DeBoer told reporters Wednesday.

Pietrangelo was injured after blocking a shot in the third period vs. the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, and did not play Monday night against the Minnesota Wild.

He has since returned to Las Vegas to receive further evaluation.

"Obviously not a great sign that he returned home for evaluation," DeBoer said after practice Wednesday, according to NHL.com. "I'm not concerned it's long, long-term, but he's out for the foreseeable future."

Pietrangelo signed a seven-year, $61.6-million contract with the Golden Knights this off-season, and has 10 points (two goals, eight assists) through 18 games this season.

Vegas plays Minnesota at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday night, and finishes its six-game road trip with back-to-back games against the St. Louis Blues on Friday and Saturday.
