Wednesday Wagers: Who on Canucks can help snap team's slump?

The Hockey Central panel take a look at the Vancouver Canucks and attempt to shed some light on why this organization is struggling so far this season.

The Vancouver Canucks are in the spotlight for Scotiabank Wednesday Night Hockey looking to snap a four-game losing streak, during which the team has been outscored 22-8.

Travis Green’s club looks to regroup at home against a Colorado Avalanche team that has won two in a row despite dealing with a lengthy list of injuries – the first of those two victories was a 7-1 drubbing of the Canucks.

Here are some player prop bets to keep an eye on during a light Wednesday slate of games:

Can you trust Boeser to end his cold streak?

Brock Boeser has gone without a point in three straight and hopes to be a catalyst that'll spark his team’s offence Wednesday.

The 24-year-old winger has four goals (all even-strength) and five assists while averaging 3.5 shots in eight career games versus the Avs and during the 2020-21 season he had only one scoreless streak that lasted more than three games.

Colorado’s projected starter, Darcy Kuemper, has solid career numbers against Vancouver, so goals may be tough to come by. However, there are some enticing odds attached to Boeser’s name against the Avalanche.

An anytime point from Boeser would net even money and his shot total is set at a modest 2.5. Points or no points, his ice time has stayed consistent lately, so there’s value on the over with Boeser netting at least three shots on goal sitting at -118 odds. He had at least one point in four straight games against the Avs before last week’s loss. A Boeser multipoint game would net a +319 return.

Boeser’s anytime goal odds are +225, two or more goals is listed at +1200 and if Boeser were to record his first hat trick in more than two years, it would cash at a whopping +6400.

Ditto for OEL?

Just like Boeser, the Canucks could use some more output from Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who has been held without a point during his team’s current losing streak. The star defenceman generated only seven shots on goal during those four losses, and that’s below his shots-per-game career average.

Ekman-Larsson’s shots total against Colorado is also 2.5, except his odds are longer at +144. He has recorded at least three shots in nine of 16 games so far this season, so there’s also value on his over. He has only three points, though, so his anytime point odds are slightly inflated at +196.

BARGAIN HUNTING

On last week’s Wednesday Wagers, we hit on a Shayne Gostisbehere anytime goal at +700, so here are a few players laying some juicy goal odds in tonight’s action.

Dach/Toews to score vs. Kraken +300:
The Chicago Blackhawks haven’t lost under interim head coach Derek King, although Jonathan Toews and Kirby Dach haven’t contributed any goals recently. In fact, Towes hasn’t scored all season and Dach is on an eight-game skid.

If you were to bet both and hit only one, you’d still come out ahead. If both were to score, an anytime goal parlay with Dach and Toews would net a +1500 bonus.

Andreas Athanasiou to score vs. Capitals +300: The Capitals lost an OT game to the Ducks last night, while the Kings are rested and back home after a successful four-game road trip. They should be the fresher team, and if that’s the case, Athanasiou’s speed will be more noticeable than usual. The winger has two goals and five points in his five games since debuting earlier this month. A multipoint effort from Athanasiou has +859 odds.
