A Minnesota native is returning home.
The Wild signed Ben Dexheimer of Edina, Minn., to a one-year entry-level contract, the team announced on Wednesday.
Dexheimer, 23, was captain for the University of Wisconsin this season, collecting 28 points (seven goals, 21 assists) in 39 games.
The five-foot-10 defenceman led the Badgers with 21:21 ice time per game and was named to the All-Big Ten First Team while leading his club to the Frozen Four.
Over four seasons at Wisconsin, Dexheimer registered 13 goals and 71 assists over 149 games.
He will join the AHL's Iowa Wild on a tryout for the remainder of the season before his contract kicks in next season.
